Livelihoods Assistant (Casual (2 months only))
Background:

The Lutheran Welfare Federation, in response to the Syrian refugee crisis, established operations in Jordan in 2012. The Lutheran World Federation is assisting refugees and vulnerable groups in Amman, Zarqa, Irbid, Mafraq and Za’atari camp. The Lutheran Welfare Federation is running projects related to Livelihoods, Education, WASH, Protection, Rehabilitation and Humanitarian Assistance. legislation and working conditions for refugees and vulnerable households in host community. The illegal employment of refugees is lowering the overall standards of employment and working conditions in Jordan. If not addressed, this lowering of standards will have a negative impact on the economy and working conditions for both Jordanians and Syrians. This emphasizes the importance of easing the way for refugees to obtain work permits and engaging refugees in the formal economy.
Increased rents, price hikes and strains on public services and public order have left Syrians unable to afford the most basic of amenities, forcing them to engage in negative coping strategies. It has reported that around 6,000 Syrian children in Jordan are being forced to work in order to provide additional income for their families. In addition, it has also been reported that 26% of households in host communities are sending family members to work in high-risk, exploitative work as a coping strategy. LWF Jordan is implementing projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of vulnerable households ( host community and refugees )in the Irbid. The Livelihoods Assistant will prove support to the livelihoods teams in programs implemented in Irbid Governorate under supervision of the Senior Livelihoods Officer and Livelihoods M and E consultant .
Specific Duties
- Conduct field monitoring visits to 25 Self Help Groups and collect relevant M and E data
- Work under supervision of Livelihoods M and E to facilitate trainings of 8 food production groups in Food handling and hygienic standards (preparation of attendance lists, women’s groups reimbursement
- Assist the team in organizing of one bazaar for women (logistics, transport reimbursement)
- Assist livelihoods team to facilitate 2 tradesmen’s workshops on labor regulations
- Assist the Senior Livelihoods officer to facilitate 2 workers’ rights meetings for cash for work beneficaries
- Work with logistics to produce asset list for farmers and handover inputs to 13 farmers.
- Distribute and collect signed time sheets for 52 farmers from 13 farms .
Person specification
Mandatory
- Bachelor’s Degree in social development, agriculture or any relevant degree
- Experience of at least >3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in livelihood projects implementation.
- Substantive knowledge and understanding of participatory approaches and community engagement.
- Relevant academic and professional experience,
- Management experience including the ability to multitask and the ability to complete tasks working with tight timelines.
- Ability to comply strictly with deadlines and work in a timely manner.
- Able to guarantee security of staff and adhere with LWF –Jordan Security and Safety policy.
Complementary
- Specific background one of the sector targeted by the assessment.
- Experience in working in international/inter-cultural settings.
- Understanding of the Jordan context, previous experience in Jordan or the Middle East is an asset.
Required language skills
- English mandatory
- Arabic an asset
